Working Families Caucus Talk About Port Security...

...This morning, on the steps of the Capitol, members of the Georgia "Working Familes" caucus called on Wal-Mart to "put America's security first' by stopping its opposition to federal legislation requiring 100% scanning of port containers.

"Wal-Mart has a simple choice to make. What is more important - Wal-Mart profits, or America's security?," said Steve Lomax, President of the local United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) union. "Sadly, for Wal-Mart, we know the answer is profits first and America's security second. That is why the American people are calling on Wal-Mart to put America's security first and stop opposing legislation to strengthen our nation's port security."

Rep. Brian Thomas, co-chair of the newly-formed "Working Families" caucus, stated that it was the purpose of the caucus to enact "policies that protect security and opportunity for working families."

Sen. Nan Orrock, one of the other co-chairs of the Working Families caucus, stated that Wal-Mart was "refusing to meet the basic level of affordable, quality healthcare" and demanded that Wal-Mart "get on board and carry your load."

During the press conference, it was announced that Wake Up Wal-Mart.com, an initiative of UFCW, would be running t.v. spots in Savannah to highlight "the cataastrophic consequences should our nation's port security fail - a nuclear explosion."
